So I did a small, in number and size,series for Christmas presentsthat I ended up really liking how they turned out, done on 7x5 inch wood panels,using oils. I kept the paintings veryloose and expressive, the way they should be. Hope you like them, thanks for taking a look.

Collaboration Part II.

With my second session coming up, I figured it was time to unveil the rest the first session. Sorry for the delay!

Cory Norris and Jeff Gogue worked for 7 ½ hours, taking only one break. With two artists working on one piece at the same time, this is a total of 15 man hours. I wish I could have been able to pay more attention to their conversations as they worked together but, I was in an entirely different place mentally. I would like to say this process was easy, but I can’t. This was one of the most physically demanding experiences of my life, yet I could not be more honored.

Below are some photos that were taken throughout the day. Some of them were taken on phones so they are not the best quality but good enough to give you an idea.

Beach Baby

So it’s been a while but I got a new painting up, I’m reallyhappy with the way it turned out. It isa simple concept and I think that’s what draws me to it the most. Back in April I had the huge honor of being tattooed by Jeff Gogue and Cory Norris. If you haven’t seen their work, go check them out, I have listed their websites below. They are two of my favorite tattoo artists and painters. They have been tattooing and painting for years and have contributed greatly to the industry. They push the envelope and continue to make their mark with each and every piece. Having any piece by either of them would be amazing, but we were embarking on an entirely new adventure--a collaboration back piece. Having them work together on this single piece is beyond words.

None of us knew what to expect. This was the first time for both Jeff and Cory to work together on a collaboration as well as my first time being tattooed by more than one person at one time.

We met up at the National Tattoo Convention in Reno Nevada on April 16to review sketches and ideas. Both came up with numerous amazing rough drafts, I would have been happy to have any number of them. Together we decided on basic elements and overall flow of the piece and prepared to work the following day. Saturday April 17 we began working on a traditional Japanese back piece.

Below are photos of Cory and Jeff drawing on the composition of the piece, it took a total of two hours to complete.

So I finished my rework of “Ice and Smoke”, below are the before and after shots. I think it is important for an artist to be willing to go back and rework a painting after it was considered a “finished” piece. I deemed the painting done a few months ago, but every time I looked at it something was off. It needed something, another figure or a more detail background, turns out the piece needed to be wiped out with an abstract background. I am really happy with the outcome, it is something a little different for me which is always fun. I also am getting very close to finishing a painting I have been working on, “Emptier my Dear". Enjoy.

So this morning I decided to have a “rework” session on some paintings that I considered “done”. The thing about being a painter, or any artist working in a medium, is having the ability to know when to stop. And sometimes, for me, I consider some paintings done, but it turns out I am just a few steps away from that. Below are some studio shots from this morning, and the paintings.

'Emptier My Dear', In Progress

So I have a few hours on my newest painting, "Emptier My Dear', really excited about the progression so far. For the past year or so I can’t seem to get this “floating” image out of my head, so I am exploring it as much as I need to. Below are some detailed shots, thanks for checking it out.

I really like the slow- rocking feeling that this piece is carrying.

A Little Sketchy...

I thought it would be a good idea to post some of my tattoo pieces on here, but I wanted to show a different side of rather than just a normal finished tattoo. Below are a few current tattoo pieces I have been working on.

Gypsy head with a fan half sleeve, stoked to work on it again.

A really interesting piece I’m working on, two wolves at the top and a deer drinking out of a stream. My client wanted the incorporate the Pacific Northwest within the piece using indigenous plant life. Can’t wait to finish it.

This is a really cool piece using all kinds of herbs. My client uses them for everything, really interesting stuff. From opium flowers to berries to St. John’s Wort, very excited.

Gluely Feathers.

So I just finished this painting, "Gluey Feathers". Its a larger piece 48x 60 inch, Oil on Canvas. I very happy with the way it turned out. Below are some detailed shots and my favorite parts of this painting.

Im really happy with the color of the piece and its composition. I love the relationship between the main figure, the pathway above her, and the sideways framed bird.

I really tried to "build" the figure in this painting, while still keeping it loose and painterly. I wanted her skin to appear cold, while warm light for her environment was hitting her.

This reference comes from a personal photo I took from a lighthouse up north on hwy 1. Amazing view, amazing photo.

I really like the angle that the birds create; it leads the eye from one part of the painting to the other.

This sideways seagull is from a painting underneath this one. It was my favorite part of the last painting, hence why I painted over it, and has become one of my favorite aspects of this one. I also really like how it is placed sideways.

As a painter I tend to find the smallest aspects of a painting the most interesting. I love how the paint is applied and manipulated in certain areas. Below are some of my most recent painting and my favorite parts about them. Enjoy.

From the same painting, I love how paint can build and move just like muscle on someone's back.
